Beginning Drawing: Line + Value + Form

Description
Grasp fundamentals of one of the most important tools in an artist studio – drawing. This course will follow traditional techniques to familiarize students with basic
drawing concepts including line, composition, value, and form. Students will use graphite pencils and washes to explore mark making through visual observation of studio still life setups to help improve technical and creative abilities. Further develop fundamental drawing skills that introduce new ways of seeing the world while learning to translate visual observations into two-dimensional works of art on paper.
Recommended Supplies
Drawing paper (18 x 24 pad), variety of Pencils (4h, 2h, h, b, 2b, 4b, hb), charcoal sticks, conte crayon, kneaded erasers (2), blending stumps, and disposable gloves
Beginning Painting: Color and Composition
Ages 11 and up

Description
Develop fundamental skills in one of the oldest studio practices to date – painting.
This course explores traditional and contemporary techniques in acrylic painting that will help you bring your ideas to life. Students will learn basic color mixing, blending, and composition within a painting practice. Studio techniques include experimental mark making and collage, washes and underpainting, composition, and form. Students will study in class studio set ups as well as translating photographic imaginative works of art on canvas.
Recommended Supplies
Basic Acrylic brush set, Acrylic studio paints set (Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, White, Yellow Ochre, Green), gloss medium, matt medium, pallet knife of choice, a variety of canvas (pre-stretched 11 x 14/ 16x20), and a reusable or disposable pallet. Disposable gloves.
WORKSHOPS
Collage Techniques - Tear, Cut, Color and Paste

Description
In this single day workshop, students of all levels create unique collages that explore the picture plane using found materials, painted paper, hand-drawn imagery, and layers adhered on paper. Students are encouraged to gather found materials in conjunction with creating painted surfaces to make collages that engage the subject matter of their choosing. Combining techniques used in painting and drawing students will investigate ways to compose complex compositions using found and repurposed materials.
Recommended Supplies
Found materials such as magazines, photographs and fabric.
Watercolor and Ink Wash Techniques - Drip, Drop, Splash
Ages 11 and up

Description
During this single day workshop students of all levels will explore techniques using wet media such as watercolors, ink washes and water-soluble pencils to make unique interpretations from observation of in class still life set up. Building on skill sets in painting and drawing, this class covers techniques used to make watercolor and ink washes, color mixing, layering and basic composition to create complex works of art on paper.

Basic Watercolor Set, Basic brush set (acrylic, watercolor or sumi), watercolor paper, india ink.
