Private Lessons, Music Theory, Chamber Music

David Kancsár began his piano studies as a boy of three years old. After his family moved to Las Vegas from the midwest, he became an NSA student himself, studying piano with Carol Urban-Stivers and Laura Spitzer, as well as violin with Béla Urban.

In the following years, he worked with world-class pianists such as Mary Norris, Aube Tzerko, Donald Walker, Anne Schein, and many others. After earning a degree in Classical Piano Performance with Daniel Pollack at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Mr. Kancsár started making forays into the world of musical theater. These included work as pianist and/or music director of Las Vegas Strip productions such as Chicago, Mamma Mia!, Phantom of the Opera, The Second City, Le Reve, The Sopranos Last Supper, Monty Python’s Spamalot, and Jersey Boys, among others.

He served as assistant conductor for the Paris Las Vegas production of Mel Brooks’ The Producers, and as pianist & music director of the Stuart Ross musical comedy revues Forever Plaid and Plaid Tidings.

His recordings include the 15th anniversary cast album of Forever Plaid, available on the DRG Records label. He is also the featured pianist in Celine Dion’s music video for Ashes, part of the soundtrack for the film Deadpool 2.

Mr. Kancsár is part of the music staff at Community Lutheran Church Las Vegas, a worship community with membership numbering in the thousands. He is also a faculty member at the prestigious Meadows School, where he teaches music theory, acts as assistant director of the band and strings programs, and also as vocal coach/music director/conductor for musical theater productions in the middle and upper school divisions.

When not preoccupied with musical endeavors, he enjoys tinkering with his vintage cars and motorcycle, loving his dog and cats, getting out into nature whenever possible, and even occasionally scuba diving.
